This month, Austin City Council adopted the Austin-Travis County Food Plan, the first-ever comprehensive food plan for our area!

The Austin-Travis County Food Plan was created with input from thousands of community members sharing their challenges, visions, and lived experience around food in Austin. Broad in scope, the plan sets nine ambitious goals focused on every aspect of our food system — from where and how it is grown, to how it reaches our plates, to what happens when food is wasted.

Thank you so much to all the community members involved and would like to give a special shout out to The Cook’s Nook Founder and CEO, Joi Chevalier who also serves as the Chair and Lisa Barden, ED of Keep Austin Fed and Vice Chair of the Austin-Travis County Food Policy Board for their valuable contributions.

Check out the city council meeting video! In this video, 25:32 minutes onwards, community members talk about Item 20 – Adopt the Austin/Travis County Food Plan, which was co-created with the community to set clear goals and strategies to move toward a more equitable, sustainable, and resilient food system.
