The Cook’s Nook is looking for a Site Production Cook and a Site Production Lead to support its partnership with Del Valle Independent School District.

DVISD Program: Site Production Cook

This role facilitates the prep, production, and packaging of meals and space cleanliness for The Cook’s Nook Del Valle Program while ensuring the quality of the production deliverables. As the Production Cook, you facilitate the success of deliverable packaged meals for students of DVISD. The role reports directly to Site Production Lead, The Cook’s Nook, DVISD Program.

$15/hour | W2 | Swing Shifts: 8:00am-3:00pm & 3:00pm-10:00pm, Sunday-Wednesday | Up to 35 hours/week

Collaborations

  • Works with the Site Production Lead and Cook Team.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and manage supplies and inventory
  • Maintain space cleanliness; including but not limited to dishwashing
  • Prep food, cook, and package, label, and store meals to be ready for pick up on time
  • Make decisions as needed for the program with production lead
  • Solve team problems as they arise and report up as needed
  • Adhere to all food safety and PPE protocols at all times

Required Skills

  • Fold Handlers Certified
  • Experience (1-3 yrs) in leading small teams; experience leading cooks is preferred
  • Experience (1-3 yrs) in inventory, preparation, cooking, culinary and production operations
  • A self-starter with a demonstrated passion for engaging communities
  • Minor ability to fix or repair equipment or small handyman projects
  • Creative problem-solving skills to create, staff, schedule programs and ensure execution and compliance
  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Can use Microsoft Excel, Word, e-mail, Google Docs, and learn The Food Corridor
  • Ability to lift up to 20lbs.
  • Strong organizational and decision-making skills, along with the ability to recognize what needs to be prioritized, and when to ask for help if needed

Schedule:

  • This is a W2 position, maximum 40 hours per week; minimum of 100% on-site
  • Hours of work may require some evening and weekend dates

Site Production Lead: DVISD Program

This role supervises the operation, production, and packaging of meals for The Cook’s Nook Del Valle Program providing packaged meals for students while ensuring the operation has the best working environment and processes. As the Production Lead, you will manage a team of cooks. The role reports directly to Joi Chevalier, Program Director.

$15/hour | W2 | Swing Shifts: 8:00am-3:00pm &; 3:00pm-10:00pm, Sunday-Wednesday | up to 35 hours/week

Collaborations

  • Works with Operations Manager, Production Leads, and Cooks.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all staff are trained and follow all Standard Operating Procedures
  • Coordinate with management to ensure all staff are trained on all facility use and production rules and standards, as well as receive appropriate training, including how to use equipment in a safe and efficient manner
  • Supervise the day-to-day activities of production staff and assign responsibility for specified work and/or functional activities; monitor staff productivity
  • Monitor production staff in compliance with use, PPE/sanitation, and production guidelines; monitor schedules and tools to ensure that all operations run smoothly.
  • Handle general prospective staff inquiries and support operations manager with solving problems
  • Engage with staff and vendors as needed
  • Handle supply requirements to support regular operations
  • Outlines and writes out recipes and methods of production in appropriate volumes, units, with templates
  • Works with the program director and other production leads on food costing and costing management
  • Remain on budget and on time for all production and delivery schedules
  • Solve team problems and report up as needed

Production Management

  • Checks in food deliveries and sorts/organize as needed
  • Breaks down cases of food and beverage items, and assists in discarding packaging
  • Arranges workspace to maximize the productivity of the assembly team
  • Ensures meal kits are assembled to company and state standards
  • Maintains all health and safety standards as directed by the company, as well as follows guidelines set by state and federal government.
  • Receives deliveries and diligently checks products for quality and accuracy before signing to accept.
  • Practices first-in-first-out, food waste, and inventory management protocols.
  • Takes daily physical inventory
  • Schedule required vendors and other services as needed to ensure the facility is compliant, passes standards and in excellent working order (e.g. pest control, recycle/trash/organics, annual permitting and inspections, grease trap cleaning. cleaning service, storage management, health inspectors)
  • Promote and augment expectations around safety and sanitation; inspect the facility for cleanliness; maintain safe practices regarding the operation of equipment; enforce safety guidelines and build awareness about safety; maintain all standards and those of agencies; order any sanitation or repair product and tools
  • Responsible for securing the maintenance of equipment, providing both preventive maintenance programs and communicating all necessary repairs to Site Owner and Production Lead
  • Oversee all security procedures for the facility and ensure a safe working environment
  • Schedule and coordinate resources

Required Skills:

  • Experience (1-3 yrs) in leading small teams; experience in quick-moving start-ups preferred
  • Experience (1-3 years) in inventory, costing, recipe writing, preparation, cooking, culinary and production operations
  • A self-starter with a demonstrated passion for engaging communities
  • Minor ability to fix or repair equipment or small handyman projects
  • Creative problem-solving skills to create, staff, schedule programs and ensure execution and compliance
  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Can use Microsoft Excel, Word, e-mail, Google Docs, and learn The Food Corridor
  • Ability to lift up to 20lbs.
  • Strong organizational and decision-making skills, along with the ability to recognize what needs to be prioritized, and when to ask for help if needed
