La Flaca: From Lawn to Farm

We are so proud to have Alejandra Rodriguez Boughton of La Flaca as a member of the Cook’s Nook! Back in mid-July, Rodriguez-Boughton started a new farm in southwest Austin with healthy soil and rare seeds to help grow products for chefs, caterers and food artisans who are searching for unique ingredients. Through La Flaca’s ups and downs, including mishaps with a bobcat stuck in their ditch and shoveling soil amendments to shape their beds through the summer heat, it’s all been an entirely worthwhile adventure and investment.

For those that are interested in seeing what it’s like to make a transformation from lawn to farm, you can join La Flaca on Wednesdays from 8AM – 12PM at 7810 Copperas Dr, Austin, TX, 78749 — be sure to bring a water bottle or something to stay hydrated with and comfy clothing. Garden gloves, sunscreen and snacks will be provided to make it a fantastic start to your morning at the farm!

La Flaca will also be hosting a Day of the Dead celebration on Sunday, November 6th. The farm will be providing fresh ingredients from their garden as well as family-friendly activities, including decorating your own sugar skull.
