This November, the Travis County Commissioners’ Court approved $3.1 million in funding to expand access to fresh food for low-income and other marginalized county residents, in addition to an earlier approval in March this year for $1.8 million for prepared meal services, like The Cook’s Nook, that provide county residents in need with nutritionally-dense meals. Our CEO, Amy Bell, spoke to the Commissioner’s Court to help elaborate the community benefits that 2022’s nearly $5 million dollar investment will have. As she told the court, “There is a clear need for having access to convenient, affordable, and delicious meals.” With the March funding, The Cook’s Nook will be able to continue its SEFAN Program, which has already provided nearly 1 million meals to Travis County residents.
